Sally Stimpson

Sally Stimpson

Chair of the Board of Directors (Trustee)

Sally has been a trustee at I Choose Freedom since 2018.

Since training as a nurse at Charing Cross Hospital in 1984. She has been working at East Surrey Hospital for the past 15 years, 7 years in Paediatric AE and for the past 8 years as the lead for safeguarding children. Sally also lived in California for 8 years with her husband and children, returning to the UK in 2001 to be closer to family and friends - no regrets, apart from the weather!

Why did you become a trustee?

'I first heard about the refuge during the course of my work when I heard Charlotte speak at a conference and knew I couldn’t leave without speaking to her and asking if she would come and speak at the hospital safeguarding  training days. The impact she has had on speaking to staff has been extraordinary giving them not only a personal insight into domestic abuse but the confidence to speak to patients about it and how and where to signpost them to get support. A few years later Charlotte asked me to be a trustee, not something I had ever considered. I am immensely proud to be part of this amazing group of women who strive day in, day out to improve the lives of women and children who are fleeing domestic abuse and giving them the opportunity of freedom.'

She enjoys anything outside including running  (slowly), walking her golden retrievers and learning about gardening.
