Without everyone here I dread to think what would have happened

A message from a woman who lived in our refuge.

When looking back to last year I can’t believe the change we have made and it’s all down to that one call, one chat and the support given.

When I first arrived here I felt at rock bottom and knew this was the only way to pick my life up and my children to know they were safe too.

My children aren’t the children of the man we are fleeing, however they suffered his mental abuse also. One of my children had left a year ago to live with his dad.

I remember pulling up and a staff member meeting me on the drive way. I felt so overwhelmed and just wanted to cry. I was so scared, so many questions were running through my head. Would the kids be ok away from everything and everyone they knew? Have I made the right choice? and so many more.

When we were shown into our room the children were amazed at the toys and teddies they were given and were like different children already -they were happy!

The helpfulness of the things we were given was overwhelming!

As the months have gone past my other child now lives with us, the other children have had so much support and are settling so well in school and to their happy safe life.

I have also come on in leaps and bounds. I have completed a college course in I.T., I am volunteering twice a week, I’ve completed counselling and am currently doing the Freedom Programme.

The staff here have supported all 4 of us every step of the way! The care, compassion and empathy they have all shown us has been amazing! We are coming to the end of our stay here now and preparing for our new, happy safe life as the 4 of us and without everyone here I dread to think what would have happened.

When looking back to last year I can’t believe the change we have made and it’s all down to that one call, one chat and the support given.

Thank you!
