A visit from the Ministry of Housing, Communities & Local Government

Last week we were delighted to welcome Emma Payne and Caroline Jackson from the Ministry of Housing, Communities & Local Government, and Sonia Knight from Surrey County Council for a visit to one of our communal refuges. Our visitors met with our survivors and staff to talk about the vital, empowering work of I Choose Freedom and the challenges faced by domestic abuse refuges up and down the country.

Our CEO, Emma, said, ‘It is always hard to convey the complexities of running a domestic abuse refuge, from daily security considerations to sustainability concerns, to the absolute joy of celebrating our survivor’s achievements. We are hugely grateful to the Ministry of Housing, Communities & Local Government and Surrey County Council for their visit, their time and interest in hearing about the detail of our work.’
